Intel 14th Gen Processor Family

Intel's latest processor family, the 14th Generation Core series, known as Raptor Lake Refresh (RPL-R), introduces new overclockable K and KF SKUs, including the flagship Core i9-14900K, the reconfigured Core i7-14700K, and the budget-friendly Core i5-14600K.

Intel i9 14900K

The Core i9-14900K aims to build upon the Core i9-13900K and shares similarities with the special edition Core i9-13900KS, boasting a 6.0 GHz core frequency out of the box.

The most intriguing chip in this lineup is the Core i7-14700K, which increases core count by adding four more E-cores compared to its predecessor.

Intel i5 14600K

The Intel Core i5-14600K is another addition with a more modest configuration and minor frequency improvements over the Core i5-13600K.

While these processors are a refresh of the 13th Gen Raptor Lake platform, the question remains about the performance differences and nuances compared to the previous generation.

These chips retain the same core architecture for P and E-cores, featuring Raptor Cove P-cores and Gracemont E-cores. The Core i9-14900K's 6.0 GHz P-core boost frequency shows promise, but sustaining it may be challenging due to thermal limits.

Improved Gaming Performance

Despite utilizing Gracemont E-cores for the third generation, Intel claims improvements in compute and gaming performance. Memory support includes DDR5 and DDR4, with motherboards supporting one or the other, not both.

The Core i9-14900K should outperform the Core i9-13900K in various scenarios, but Intel primarily targets users on older generations for upgrades.

While the chipset remains the same, new boards support Wi-Fi 7 via discrete adapters, marking a shift away from Wi-Fi 6E.
